SARAKI, DEPUTY IN ANOTHER FOGERY SAGA
The government of the Federation has brought a fresh forgery charges against Senate president and his deputy. Aside him, the former Clark of the national assembly (NASS) and his deputy have also been charged to court in person of Salisu Maikaduwa and Benedict Efeture respectively.
The forgery charges is coming barely after a year that both men controversially emerge as senate president and deputy last year June.
Saraki and Ekweremadu found themselves in this new saga as a result of a petition written against them to the Inspector General of police. IGP Arase by a serving Senator from Kaduna North in person of Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi (APC) over the allegation of forgery of the slandering rules used for the election of both men.
The police boss has submitted to the Attorney general and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami the details from the preliminary report has filled against Saraki and the three other men and the forgery charges has been leveled against them as filled by Senator Hunkuyi.
It should be recalled that the unity forum, a group under the All Progressive Congress (APC’s) Senators who were against Saraki emergence, but preferred his opponent Senator Lawan Ahmed, the Kaduna state Senator was the secretary of the group.
The case, with reference number, CR/219/16, was filed on June 10, 2015 at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Justice Yusuf Haliru is to oversee the case. The case is a two-count charge, including offence of conspiracy punishable under Section 97 (1) of the Penal Code Law; and offence of forgery with “fraudulent intent” punishable under Section 364 of the Penal Code Law.
Count one reads: “That you Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa, Benedict Efeturi, Dr. Olubukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu on or about the 9th of June, 2015, at the National Assembly Complex, Three Arm Zone, Abuja within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired amongst yourselves, to forge the Senate Standing Order, 2011 (as amended) and you thereby committed the offence of Conspiracy, punishable under Section 97 (1) of the Penal Code Law.”
For Count Two, it reads thus: “That you Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa, Benedict Efeturi, Dr. Olubukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu on or about the 9th of June, 2015, at the National Assembly Complex, Three Arm Zone, Abuja within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with fraudulent intent forged the Senate Standing Order 2011 (as amended) causing it to be believed as the genuine Standing Order, 2015 and circulated same for use during the inauguration of the 8th Senate of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, when you knew that the said Order was not made in compliance the procedure for amendment of the Senate Order, you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 364 of the Penal Code Law.” Premium Times gathered that Saraki’s image maker, Yusuph Olaniyonu who spoke to journalists about the challenges his boss is facing said, “It’s a curious and a very recent development and we are watching, ” but Ekweremadu’s media aide, Uche Anichukwu did not comment on the issue. Despite the economic realities on ground, Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, are among the four lawmakers, who are being penned down for a life pension allowance
