40 SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN OGUN STATE AFTER THE KILLING OF 11 PERSONS

No fewer than 40 suspects have been
arrested in different parts of Ogun State by police over killings of 11 persons
allegedly carried out by suspected members of Aye Confraternity cult at Igode
and Fakale communities, in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state, on
Wednesday. IGP IdrisIGP Idris The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa
Adejobi, said the suspects were arrested in Sagamu, Ijebu Igbo, Emuren, and Ago
Iwoye. It had been reported that in the attack on the two communities, no fewer
than 11 persons were reportedly shot dead. According to Adejobi, 17 out of
those 40 suspects were arrested at Emuren axis and the remaining ones were
nabbed at Ijebu Igbo, and Ago Iwoye. Adejobi further explained that the state
command received information that the Aye Confraternity members were mobilising
to attack Sagamu again on Friday, but, the command has instructed the
Divisional Police Officer in Sagamu, to man the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode highway. He
said the command also had a hint that some traditional rulers in the affected
communities were aiding the cult groups, warning that any of them found
culpable would be dealt with according to the law. He recalled that the cause
of the fracas was the killing of a goat of a rival group that was preparing for
a festival.
