About five candidates were arrested at the just concluded police recruitment screening exercise in Lafia, Nasarawa State, for allegedly forging certificates tendered for the exercise.
Mr. Alhassan Mamoda, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the exercise in the state told SUNDAY PUNCH that four of the candidates were discovered to have forged their certificates so as to gain employment into the police force, while the fifth person was arrested for stealing a handset.
Mamoda said, “Imagine someone who wants to join the police to protect lives and properties stealing a handset at the venue of the screening exercise.
“He stole the handset and hid it in his pants. He was discovered and arrested in the process of investigation.
“All the suspects were handed over to the appropriate department of the Force for further investigation.”
The CP also  added that no fewer than 5,200 candidates were successfully screened during the screening exercise and out of 9,627 that applied from the state.
Mamoda called on other candidates with criminal tendencies to discard the habit and repent before joining the force or if caught to have committed any crime even while they have join the force, they would be disciplined.
